PhoneGuard, Distracted-Driving Campaign "A Success" PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 15 August 2011
PhoneGuard, a supplier of mobile applications, have announced a successful first week of marketing their Drive Safe responsible texting application, in conjunction with two-time Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Justin Bieber.
The company’s ‘Drive Safe’ cell phone application disables the texting, emailing and keyboard functions of the phone while in a vehicle moving faster than 16km/h (10mph). PhoneGuard and Bieber have joined forces with the Remember Alex Brown Foundation to create a dialogue with teens and their parents to raise awareness of the dangers of distracted driving. Available for BlackBerry and Android smartphones, the Drive Safe application also features an Auto-Reply button, a preset response that is automatically delivered to the texter or caller and reads ‘I am driving and will contact you when I reach my destination’. It also features and a Request Permission button that allows users to request permission from the administrator to have access to the phone’s functions.

Last week’s Drive Safe product launch information and product videos featuring Justin Bieber reached more than 100 million digital unique visitors and millions of additional broadcast viewers within the first four days alone. “To say the least, we have been very pleased with the buzz we have begun to create relative to this campaign,” said Scott Frohman, CEO of Options Media Group, PhoneGuard’s parent company. “We were especially excited to see two of the campaign images showcased in Times Square, which receives more than 1.5 million visitors each day and the many new Facebook Fans and Twitter followers that signed up after visiting our new sites. Although the statistics are impressive, the most impressive statistic of all was the number of hits we received on our website and the number of downloads that occurred.”

Bendix Buy Iteris Vehicle Sensor Biz PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 15 August 2011
Traffic management systems provider Iteris have signed an agreement to sell their Vehicle Sensors business to truck and bus components supplier Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems, a member of Knorr-Bremse Group, for US$14m plus potential performance and royalty-related earn-outs. The transaction is expected to close before the end of this month. Iteris’ Vehicle Sensors business encompasses a portfolio of vehicle active safety systems including lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and blind spot warning, as well as SafetyDirect software that analyzes real-time driver performance.

Abbas Mohaddes, president and CEO of Iteris, said, “This divestiture is an important step in our strategic plan to focus the company on the traffic management market. The divestiture accomplishes two objectives. It enables us to concentrate our energy and resources in the growing traffic management market and provides additional funding to pursue new growth initiatives in that market. We plan to further enhance our intellectual property through acquisition opportunities, much like our recent purchase of Meridian Environmental Technology. We also intend to make further investments in R&D and sales and marketing, which we expect will accelerate our organic growth.”
